That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Appararently all the astronomers got together and decided that "Eight is Enough" and Pluto is no longer a planet. They also made stupid jokes with stuffed animals of Disney's Pluto and umbrellas (you got me there; I don't understand nerd humor).
Can you imagine what it will be like in 50 years? We'll be telling our grandchildren "I remember when we used to have nine planets..." They'll think we're such morons.
Two hundred years from now they'll laugh at our stupidity just like we laugh at the simple mindedness of the people who thought the world was flat.
JJ said there must be a lot of angry third graders in the world today because of this decision. Well, I can say it's not just the third graders.

So Idiotic
I came across a website today called "Bag, Borrow or Steal."
The premise of this site is that you can rent designer purses (Coach, Burberry, etc.) by the week or month if you can't afford to buy them at full price.
Am I missing something? This seems like the stupidest idea in the whole world. Trust me, you're not fooling anyone carrying around a designer handbag while still driving your Geo Metro.
To top it all off, I saw that the site had an "Outlet" page. I had to register ("Free Membership!"--as if anyone would pay for it). When I did, I was bombarded with images of used purses that can be purchase for 30% off. Wow. A used puruse that would normally cost $138 is now only $99!
I love purses as much as--or maybe more than--the next girl, but this seems like a stupid idea. A lot of the purses were $13 a week and $40 for the month. Idiocy. Who would fall for this?

No Contest
Seriously. I have the best husband in the world. As if I didn’t already know.
Unbeknownst to me until yesterday, Jon has been plotting and planning (with the help of my boss) a surprise trip to NYC to see three Broadway shows in September. This is to be my graduation present.
Jon realized he had to tell me since I pay the bills and would eventually see the charges for everything. Out came the truth. Not being one for surprises, I like it better this way since I will know how to pack and have something exciting to look forward to for the next month.
My fabulous husband has made all the arraignments: hotel, transportation, flights, and show tickets. He had even arraigned for me to have time off from work!
Thank you! I love you, Lamb!

Yippeeeee!
My cat (Audrey) woke up from surgery today!
She was getting the other half of her thyroid removed (it was too risky to remove it all at once). She woke up just fine and started to try to clean herself.
I was very worried all morning that she wouldn't pull through surgery--that she just wouldn't wake up.
I'm so happy she's alive!

I Don't Believe That
One of my favorite new sayings is “I don’t believe that.” If I hear something I don’t like, I respond with “I don’t believe that.” It doesn’t matter how logical it may be; if I don’t like it, that’s what I say.
Jennifer J and I have been comprising a list of common things in which we don’t believe. I keep it in written form in the bottom tray on my desk and add to it almost daily.
So far here are a few things we don’t believe:
1) I don’t believe that people put razor blades or poison in children’s trick-or-treat candy.
2) I don’t believe that people put drugs or poison on the underside of children’s stickers or fake tattoos
3) I don’t believe that people die from the heat. (You do not die because you get too hot; you die from preexisting conditions.)
4) I don’t believe people when they say it is impossible for them to floss their teeth.
5) I don’t believe that people can sweat tar. You are simply sweaty with flecks of dirt on you.
6) I don’t believe in ADHD. Kids are kids. They get ants in their pants. Beat them and they’ll sit still and focus or talk about something they’re interested in. I get ADHD when people are talking about crap that bores me.
7) I don’t believe that children can get pregnant in 3rd grade.

My Father the Hero

Do we ever grow up and stop needing our parents to rescue us?
Yesterday, I had a lot of things to get done after work in preparation for company this weekend. Thankfully, my fabulous boss let me go an hour early as I was sure that one hour would make all the difference in getting everything done.
I went to the mall and got Kasey’s birthday present. (Kasey, I really think you’re going to like it!). Then I went home, ate my dinner, and cut my grass. When I was ready to blow off the driveway and sidewalks though, I couldn’t turn on the blower. I tried for ten minutes but no luck. Finally, I called my dad and asked what I was doing wrong. He instructed me how to turn on the blower and asked if I needed him to come over. Stupidly, I said no. I got off the phone and tried the blower a few more times. Still no luck. I gave up and went inside and cried. I started to clean my house since that needed to be done as well.
Just as I was about to start vacuuming, I saw my dad pull up on his motorcycle. I walked out to meet him and started crying. I’m such a wimpy baby sometimes. I was frustrated and felt overwhelmed with everything I wanted to get done that evening. Dad had trouble starting the blower too, but finally succeeded and blew off my walkways. He even changed my light bulb on my front porch.
I was so thankful my dad came and helped me. I had secretly hoped that he would come to my rescue even though I told him I didn’t need him to come over. He did not disappoint. I’m so glad parents are still parents even when you’re not a little kid anymore. It’s comforting knowing they’re there for you no matter what.

The One I Want

This is what happens when you don't get a pony when you're a little girl. I'm 25 and I've never stopped wanting a horse. I'm determined that one day I will own a horse, and sooner than later since I don't want to be too old to ride it.
There's a website I go to every week of a farm located in upstate GA that sells horses. Sometimes I see a horse that I know would be just perfect for me (like the one in the picture).
Alas, as horses are expensive, it will be some time before I can get one.

I'm Not Crazy! I Promise!
I guess I better hurry and post something since I think I scared everyone away with my last musing on my belief in Bigfoot and ghosts. I promise I’m not crazy—well, maybe a little.
Not a lot new with me. I’m still adjusting to the “single” life. The one good thing is that with no one to talk to I’m getting a ton of sleep. Seriously, I go to bed around 9:00 or 10:00 usually. I guess that’s a bit pathetic to admit.
School starts next week. I’m doing an independent study with Dr. Remler. We’re going to work on an article throughout the semester that will be ready for publication by the time we’re finished. I’m so excited! Although I still have to approve the topic with her, I’m hoping to focus on culture and how it relates to writing center consultations. Since I work with so many different cultures at work, I thought it might be interesting to investigate.
I still can’t stop thinking about the documentary Grizzly Man. There was a boy in Ludowici who was not all there. He thought about nothing but snails for a whole month. I feel like that about Grizzly Man. I try to find subtle ways to sneak references about Timothy Treadwell or bears into everyday conversation. Usually I’m the only one who thinks they’re subtle.
I’ll close for now. Please don’t be frightened by my last post. I promise I am sane. Don’t stop commenting!

The Truth Is Out There
Bigfoot, ghosts, and aliens. I believe in all three. When I was little, we had a series of books from Time Life about these interesting subjects. I would read and reread these books as well as watch Unsolved Mysteries even though it always scared the pants off me.
For a period of time, I was terrified of aliens. I was convinced they would come to get me and take me back to their ufo where the would stick me with all sorts of probes. I would not look out my window at night for fear that they would know where I was.
While floating on my raft in the pool in my backyard, I could not totally relax and close my eyes for fear that Bigfoot would emerge from the woods and get me. There used to be a tree in my front yard where I was sure Bigfoot hid to watch me. Thankfully, the tree was eventually cut down (not because of my supposition, it was a hazard since it was so close to the house).
I am convinced there is a ghost at the house in which I grew up in Ludowici. Many other family and friends have told me of their “ghost experiences” and I believe every word.
I thought when I was an adult these (deemed by some as silly) beliefs would disappear. Not a chance. I don’t really worry about aliens anymore as I’m so over them, but I still think about and watch or read anything available on Bigfoot and ghosts.
I realize I sound a bit crazy. However, I was wondering if anyone else was a bit crazy as well. Do you believe Bigfoot, ghosts, or aliens are real? (And if you have had a ghost experience, please do share with everyone.)

Lonesome Dove
I am a lonesome dove. The first few weeks Jon has been gone haven’t been so bad, but this week (going on the 4th full week) is harder. At first, the Bluffton store was scheduled to open in February, then it was pushed forward to January, and now there is the possibility of it being pushed back to May. I know Jon is lonely as well and I feel guilty and selfish writing this blog about my feelings of loneliness.
I’ve never been alone before. I’ve always had roommates. I go home every night, eat dinner, and clean, watch tv, and play with my kittens. School will be starting soon at AASU, so that will keep me busy. Fall Quarter will be starting at work soon as well, which will keep my days very busy. I look forward to the busy times.
However, there’s a lull with work and school right now. I know some of you have lived on your own before (or are doing so now) and was wondering what you do to keep from getting lonely.

What's Your Blues Name?
Bob and Sheri were talking about Blues music and lyrics this morning. Then they came up with their “Blues Names.” 1. Pick an infirmity of yourself (some of the ones they came up with were lazy eye, bad tooth, and aching toe). 2. Pick your favorite fruit. 3. Pick a president’s last name.
My blues name is Fat Cherry Monroe (which I think is pretty good).
What’s yours?
